변경희 교수는 아시아 미술과 아시아-아메리카학, 유럽 중세미술 연구자로, 최근 아시아-아메리카 시각문화와 구미의 아시아 미술에 대한 인식을 탐구하고 있습니다. 또한 아시아 미술이나 노동사에 대한 교육방식 연구와 함께 디지털 인문학 관련 다양한 워크숍과 교육자료를 제시하며 국제적인 연구와 교육 활동을 펼치고 있습니다. 현재 변경희 교수는 아시아언어문명학부의 풀브라이트 방문학자로 서울대학교 중앙도서관 등에서 동아시아의 교복에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있습니다.

School Uniforms in East Asia: A Cultural Interpretation
The libraries of Seoul National University and the National Library of Korea kept official records and printed books of the Korean Empire and the Government General in Korea between 1910 and 1945. Juvenile magazines and women’s magazines in the early twentieth century will be the main materials that I need to examine. There are two goals with this research project: the first goal is to collect and analyze symbols and signs of modernity in school uniforms and disciplined bodies in Korean and East Asian printed culture; and the second is to discuss with Korean scholars critical issues such as construction of citizenship, gender roles, organizational behaviors, economic nationalism, national heritage, the development of technology in textiles manufacturing, and the history of consumption in the long twentieth century.
